S Sreesanth accuses BCCI of shielding cricketers involved in spot fixing
After losing his much-publicised court case, S Sreesanth has now accused the BCCI of shielding players who were involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal adding that he had been made a scapegoat. He also targeted the CSK and RR players, who are still active, whose were also investigated.
Sreesanth has found it hard to remain subservient to BCCI’s continuous suppression over the past few years and has come out to accuse the cricketing body of shielding players who were involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. Targeting players from Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Sreesanth told Republic, “So many names were taken during interrogation. I won’t take names but Delhi Police named them. Names were taken
“What about them? During the probe, cops dropped one name after the other… yes, some of them are still playing for the country. “Teams like CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) banned only for two years… Why weren’t players from CSK questioned?”
Since the life ban imposed on him by BCCI following the probe, Sreesanth has been desperate to return to the cricketing circuit. But, BCCI has made sure that it doesn’t happen. The board moved against the decision of Kerala High Court after it had upheld the lifetime ban imposed by the cricket board. Following it, Sreesanth had hinted he would even be willing to play for another country stating, “BCCI has imposed the ban, not ICC”. But, BCCI even ended that hope by invoking International Cricket Council (ICC) rules to declare that he cannot play for another country.
Sreesanth was accused of being involved in the spot-fixing scandal during IPL’s 2013 edition while he was playing for the franchise Rajasthan Royals. The right-arm fast-medium bowler had played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India, taking 87, 75 and 7 wickets respectively.
