BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri, has, in a letter informed the Committee of Administrators that BCCI GM, MV Sridhar, had allegedly provided false information to appoint a new trainer in Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy. Johri stated that the trainer didn’t appear for the BCCI-conducted test or workshop.

According to the letter sent by Rahul Johri to the Committee of Administrators (CoA), the National Cricket Academy of Bengaluru has appointed a new trainer, Sohum Desai, who has neither attended the BCCI’s workshop on sports science nor appeared for the examination at the end of it.

Johri confirmed the development to The Indian Express in a text message, stating, “I have reported the matter to the CoA and the office-bearers, will await their decision on the issue.” He also revealed that the CoA had decided to appoint the trainer after BCCI General Manager of Cricket Operation, MV Sridhar, had falsely informed the committee that Desai came second in the exam.

Johri’s letter to CoA read, “Sohum Desai did not attend the SSM Trainers Workshop and neither did he appear for the exam. I brought this issue up with Dr. Sridhar and he told me that even he was not aware that Sohum had not appeared for the test but was relying on Shankar Basu’s recommendation.”

The test was conducted last year by Indian team’s strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu while Ian Finley of South Africa evaluated the papers.

Interestingly, Basu is currently facing conflict-of-interest allegations. Earlier this month, PTI had reported that members had questioned Sridhar about the “process of Desai’s appointment as he has been associated with Basu’s personal fitness centre ‘Primal Patterns'.”

Speaking to PTI, Sridhar had stated, “The boy came second in the exam and that’s why he got the job. I don’t think there is any conflict of interest.” Sridhar has refused to comment this time.
