IPL auction 2018 : I don’t know what’s going to happen says Harbhajan Singh
After playing for Mumbai Indians since the first edition of IPL, Harbhajan Singh was not one of the players to be retained by the Ambani-owned franchise. However, Harbhajan has said that he is looking forward to winning the Cup for whatever team he ends up with, be it Mumbai or some other franchise.
After 10 years in Mumbai's blue jersey, we might just see Harbhajan Singh sporting different colours this year after the Mumbai Indians' regular player was overlooked by the franchise as they chose to retain club captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and yorker-specialist Jasprit Bumrah and they will in all probability use their RTM on Krunal Pandya.
"I don't know what's going to happen. I might be with MI or it could be any other team -- Punjab, Kolkata... I enjoyed each and every moment playing for MI," Harbhajan told PTI.
"Well, this is a first for me. I was in the auctions when IPL started (2008) and after 10 years, I am back at the auctions. It's a different feeling altogether. I have played all my cricket for Mumbai Indians 10 years. Now I don't know which team I will be in."
The Punjab-born off-spinner has managed to claim 127 wickets over 136 matches in the IPL since it began. His contribution
"We won five trophies over there, one of them came under my captaincy too. It was wonderful to be there. Let's see what happens on January 27. I am looking forward to IPL 2018. Whatever team I go in, I will look forward to winning the Cup for whatever team I am in." said Harbhajan.
Harbhajan admitted that he is sad at the prospect of leaving a team he considers to be family but he understands and respects the decisions made by the management as they are made keeping in mind the direction the team wants to take in the long run.
"Whatever they are doing, they are doing it for the best of their team and whatever they are looking to do. I am not disappointed. I am always like this. Whoever takes me I will give my 100 percent," the off-spinner said.
The Punjab team failed to reach the final in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy despite beating Rajasthan by five runs to finish on same 12 points but it was the latter who crept past the former into the final due to a better net run-rate.
"It is disappointing not to be playing in the final after winning three games. We have beaten the best of the sides in the tournament, Karnataka and Mumbai were probably the strongest teams in terms of the way they have played over the years. We had come really prepared. This is one of those unfortunate things that we were not able to make it despite winning three matches... I am a bit shocked," said Harbhajan.
