Shikhar Dhawan observed that ups and downs in his career made him realize that family is very important and that there is more to life than just cricket. He also opened up about his kabbadi-style celebration and his love for the manly sport when invited on Breakfast with Champions.

Delhi batsman Shikhar Dhawan has proved his class not only in the limited overs format but in the longest format as well. He has been one of the key mainstays in the Indian cricket team and will once again be summoned by the Virat Kohli-led team for upcoming tournaments. However, things have not always been on the bright side for the left-handed batsman as his career saw many ups and downs in his journey to the top. Soon after his International debut against Australia in 2010, things were under the weather for Dhawan as he was axed from a few games.

Since then, Shikhar Dhawan pulled his socks up and overcame his fitness issues to make a stunning comeback which earned him a permanent place in the national team, as selectors opted to choose him over Gautam Gambhir. In a recent chat on Breakfast with Champions, Dhawan revealed how being benched made him realize that there are other aspects that deserve his attention and his life did not entirely revolve around cricket.

"If I'm destined to play for the national team then the opportunity will come my way. It is an eye-opener when you get dropped from the team. When I was benched I realised that my life does not revolve only around cricket, I have different aspects as well. Family is the most important aspect to my life. I don't think much. My main goal in my life is to remain happy and it is very important for me to stay like that," Dhawan said.

The left-handed opener is well known for his unique Kabbadi-style celebration. Dhawan, also known as the 'gabbar' of Indian cricket, revealed that he was a big fan of Kabbadi and started this kind of celebration after taking a catch in Australia where he dismissed Shane Watson.

"This happened in Australia when I took Shane Watson's catch. I like to watch kabaddi, it's a manly sport. I enjoy it and celebrate taking catches very sincerely. People also look at me these days and do the celebration whenever I'm fielding near the boundary," he added.

In the recently-concluded IPL season, Dhawan came close second to orange cap holder Kane Williamson for the highest number of runs scored. He will now fight for a spot in the opening line-up for India as they prepare to face Afghanistan in a one-off Test in Bengaluru on June 14.
