After one win and one loss in KPL 2018, Bijapur Bulls recorded their second win in KPL 2018 as they beat Mysore Warriors by a narrow margin of two runs in Mysore. Bharath Chipli scored a brilliant 53 off 53 deliveries as all-rounder Naveen MG bowled a superb final over to beat the Warriors today.

Brief Scores: Bijapur Bulls - 167/7 from 20 overs (Bharath Chipli 63, Mir Kaunain Abbas 42, Prateek Jain 2/15 ,Bhareth NP 2/27) beat Mysore Warriors - 165-5 from 20 overs (Jagadeesha Suchith 30, Raju Bhatkal 29, KC Cariappa 2/21, Naveen MG 1/27)

After a tough 2018 season for the Bijapur Bulls so far which seen the Bharath Chipli-led team notch up a total of four points from four games of which two were shelved due to bad weather conditions, the team had their task cut out. With one win and one loss from the two games the Bulls actually participated in, the game against Mysore Warriors was a must-win encounter for last year’s runners-up.

The Warriors, who won a high-scoring game last night against Belagavi Panthers by just one run, won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground, in Mysore. The home team got off to a dream start as they dismissed Bulls’ opener - Shishir Bhavane for naught in the first over itself. The Jagadeesha Suchith-led team pulled off another coup as they got the wicket of danger-man Naveen MG in the fifth over as well. The Bulls were struggling at 22-2, but some smart batting from veteran cricketers - Chipli and Mir Kaunain Abbas ensured that the Bijapur-based team remained in contention for a win. The duo put up a partnership of 80 runs before Abbas’ dismissal. Chipli was the highest run-getter for the Bulls as reached a total of 63 from 53 deliveries before being dismissed by Prateek Jain, who was highly economical for the home side. A late flurry of shots in the final over by Suneel Raju saw the visitors take their total to 167/7 as Chipli & Co. hoped to pull off a vital win at this crucial stage in the tournament.

Chasing 168, Mysore Warriors got off to a dream start as they smashed 14 runs in the first over itself, which included three wides, one four and one maximum. Warrior openers -  Arjun Hoysala and Raju Bhatkal - were hitting the ball all over the park as they raced to a total of 38/0 after four overs. But four quick wickets saw Arjun, Raju, Amit Verma and Shoaib Manager return to the Warriors’ dugout and got the Bulls back into the game. At 120/4 after 15, the home team were still in it for sure. Some good spin bowling from KC Cariappa ensured that last year’s runners-up stayed in the game till the very end after disappointing work from pacers -  Zahoor Farooqui and Ronit More. With the Warriors needing 14 from the last 6, it was all down to Naveen to restrict the Mysore-based franchise from registering back-to-back wins. It went down to the wire as the gap was further to reduced to seven runs from two balls and Naveen kept his calm to guide the Chipli & Co. to a hard-fought victory and condemn the Warriors to a narrow loss.
