KPL 2018: Bijapur Bulls storm into the finals after openers shine against Hubli
Bijapur Bulls have set up the summit clash against Bengaluru Blasters in the ongoing Karnataka Premier League by defeating Hubli Tigers by nine wickets in the second semi-final that was played in Mysuru today. Skipper Bharath Chipli and Naveen MG scored 73 and 62* respectively for the Bulls.
Winning the toss and batting first, Hubli started off on a great note with Mohammed Taha and Abhishek Reddy adding 47 runs for the first wicket in 5.3 overs. KP Appanna picked up Taha’s wicket in the last over of the powerplay to provide the much-needed breakthrough.
The Tigers lost wickets at regular intervals after that and at one point were at 103/6 inside 17 overs. Kranthi Kumar then chipped in with the bat lower down the order and contributed crucial 24 runs off 14 balls. The Bulls ended up with 134/7 in 20 overs.
Chasing 135 in 20 overs, Bijapur openers Bharath Chipli and Naveen MG were off to a great start. They toyed with the Hubli bowlers from the very beginning of the run-chase. The bowling unit led by India international Vinay Kumar found it impossible to restrict the run-flow.
The openers added 125 runs before Chipli was picked up by Punith S for 73 in the 15th over. Naveen remained unbeaten on 62 and sealed the game for the Bulls in the same over after Chipli’s dismissal.
