Mark Ramprakash and Jonathan Trott among the big names in race for India's batting coach
Former English cricketers, Mark Ramprakash and Jonathan Trott are some of the high profile names among the numerous candidates, who have applied for the role of India's batting coach. The BCCI will conduct several interviews to appoint support staff for head coach Ravi Shastri this week.
The BCCI has already started the recruitment process to hire new batting, bowling, and fielding coaches for the Indian team and the interviews are scheduled to take place from Monday to Thursday. Former English batsmen Mark Ramprakash and Jonathan Trott have reportedly been interviewed for the role of batting coach. Other candidates in the race of batting coach are Thilan Samaraweera, Pravin Amre, Amol Muzumdar, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and Vikram Rathour.
The contracts of the former head coach and the assistant coaches ended after the World Cup in July before and there were a lot of questions regarding the continuation of Ravi Shastri as the head coach before he was finally reappointed by BCCI on Monday.
England's veteran batsman Trott brings a lot of overseas value to the table and is currently the batting coach at Kent on a temporary role. Apart from that, he has also been invited to apply for the batting coach role with England Under-19s and England. Recently, he had a brief stint with the England Test side ahead of the Test against Ireland at the Lord's around four weeks ago.
Former South Africa batsman Jonty Rhodes, who was associated with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL until recently, and Ant Botha, who represented South Africa Under-19s before moving to England, have applied for the post of fielding coach. Meanwhile, Venkatesh Prasad, Sunil Joshi, Amit Bhandari, and Paras Mhambrey are understood to have applied for the position of the bowling coach.
