“Honestly I didn’t think I could ever do this” - Krishnappa Gowtham revels in crazy all-round performance
After an unbeaten 134 with the bat and an 8/15 with the ball, Krishnappa Gowtham was on cloud nine and stated he never imagined that he could ever pull off such a figure. Gowtham further added that one could never plan for such a performance and things just fell in place for him.
With Ashes and India-Windies series going on Television, Karnataka Premier League is the least attraction for anyone but Gowtham made everyone sit up and take notice of it when he lit the stage on fire with the best all-round performance ever-witnessed in T20 cricket. A century in 39 balls against Shivamogga Lions notwithstanding, Gowtham carried on for an unbeaten 134. If one would have imagined Gowtham would end his carnage there, how vehemently wrong they were.
The Rajasthan Royals all-rounder picked up eight wickets with the ball that included a hat-trick. Gowtham was understandably excited about it and in an exclusive chat with SportsCafe, he stated he never imagined that he could ever pull off such a figure in a game.
“Of course, you could never plan for such performance but you can always train for something and things will happen in the right manner. After things fall in place, I was really excited, something that I didn’t think I could ever do this honestly,” Gowtham told SportsCafe.
While Gowtham secured better bowling figures than Colin Ackermann, who picked up seven wickets for 18 runs in a Vitality Blast game in England earlier this month, much to his dismay, it will not be considered an official record as the state T20 leagues are categorized as “Other T20s”. However, the game is bound to attract the notice of the people who matter but the all-rounder is not thinking about that at all.
“I never worried about anything which is not in my control. What is in my control is to go out there and express yourself when given a chance. That’s what I have been doing and I am just fortunate that things came out well and I could do such stuff last night in Bangalore. I can only put in numbers and if the selectors and the team management think I can add something to the senior team, then I will be really happy but that’s not in my control.”
With four wins and one loss, Bellary Tuskers have already booked their place in the top two of the points table, no matter the result in the last game against Mysuru Warriors. Probably the most star-studded team of the tournament, Gowtham said the team is eager to lift the cup.
“We have a very balanced side with Prasidh Krishna leading from the front. We have Devdutt Padikkal, Abhishek Reddy. We are looking forward to win the cup but at the same time, we are also looking forward to what it takes to be a good team. Most importantly, we are in the right frame of mind and gelling well with each other pretty well too,” the 30-year-old concluded.
