VIDEO | Commentators left confused with LBW rules after Anamul Haque's switch hit stance
LBW rules although seem complicated at times for people, a commentator not understanding it seems funny. A Bangladesh Premier League commentator got confused about the rules on air when Anamul Haque tried attempted a switch-hit type reverse sweep and gave a terrible description on air.
Bangladesh Premier League is at the centre of many controversies due to continuous umpiring blunders and the quality of the broadcast is clearly not at the level that is seen across different T20 leagues across the world. Now, the commentary came under the scanner as well as the Gazi TV commentators failed to understand DRS.
In the ninth over of Comilla Victorians’ Innings against Rajshahi Kings, Arafat Sunny was completely befuddled when Anamul Haque changed his style from the right-hand to left-hand in order to play the switch hit. As the ball stayed low, Haque decided to go for a normal sweep from the left-handed position, which would technically be called as reverse-sweep as he had taken a right-handed stance in the beginning.
The ball landed in the outside off-stump (for a right-hander) and went on to hit the stumps. While umpire ruled that as not-out, Sunny was confused by it and decided to go the review. The third umpire found out that the ball had the impact outside the off and as a shot had been offered by Haque, it was declared Not out.
However, the commentator on air was completely ignorant of the rules and stated that as the ball landed on the “outside leg”, he was given not out. His thought came from the switch-hit attempt which is clearly redundant for an umpire.Â
