Stephen Fleming in line to be named Nottingham-based Trent Rockets’ new coach

Former New Zealand captain and Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming is in discussions to be named as the coach of Nottingham-based The Hundred side - Trent Rockets. Earlier, it was reported that former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene was set to be named as head coach of Southern Brave.

Stephen Fleming has been one of the most sought after coaches in domestic international competitions ever since he began his coaching career as coach of the Chennai Super Kings in 2009 after he retired. Reports in ESPNCricinfo have suggested that the former New Zealand captain looks set to be named as head coach of the Nottingham-based The Hundred side -Trent Rockets.

Fleming enjoyed a long association as a player with Nottinghamshire. As coach, Fleming has won the IPL on three occasions with Chennai Super Kings and has also coached in the BBL competition.

"Fleming has expressed an interest and we have spoken to him. We want all the other coaches to come from this area. We think that's the right model for this competition," Mick Newell, director of cricket at Nottinghamshire, was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. 

Earlier, reports revealed that that Andrew McDonald and Mahela Jayawardene were set to be named as head coaches of Birmingham Phoenix and Southern Brave respectively. The Telegraph also reported that Ricky Ponting was favourite to coach the team that will be based at The Oval.
