After making the semi-finals, England’s Jason Roy said that he is more than pleased with his performances for the three lions at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. The England opener was forced off the pitch during England's victory over West Indies but made his return to the playing XI.

Jason Roy has undergone an insane amount of struggle to make it to the England team currently competing at the ICC World Cup 2019 on home soil. The English opener has faced a lot of issues with injuries in the last year which is why he opted to skip the 2019 IPL season in order to stay fresh for the World Cup.

Roy was involved in the first few games at the global showpiece but was forced off the pitch in the match against West Indies. He missed the crucial win against Australia but returned to play a starring role alongside fellow opener Jonny Bairstow in the victory against New Zealand. The talented English batsman revealed that he is happy with how he has performed with the bat at the quadrennial competition in front of the home fans.

"I'm right where I wanted to be, both mentally and physically. This is the reward for the hard work and sacrifices we all make. I didn't put myself in the IPL auction, I did everything I possibly could to get myself to this point I'm at now.

"I'm ecstatic with where I'm at with my cricket and it just goes to show that all the hard work and dedication that goes in really helps. It is nice to be in a completely different place to where I was in Cardiff [where he was dropped for the Champions Trophy semi-final], but to be honest I think I've been here for a while now, since I came back into the side. It has been a really positive journey for me since returning to the England team and it is great that it is still going strong into a World Cup semi-final," Roy was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Roy, who has played 89 ODIs for England having made his debut back in 2015, added that he is looking forward to getting a call-up for the upcoming Ashes series against Australia which is scheduled to take place after the culmination of the World Cup in England itself.

"Yes, there has been a bit of chat about it. Playing Test cricket and playing in the Ashes has been an ambition of mine for years. It hasn't just come about in the last couple of months. If the call comes, then great it comes, but if it doesn't then so be it. Of course my ambition is to play Test cricket and see how I go.

"When you're young you don't understand a huge amount about batting, you just go out there and bat. But now I feel like I know myself a lot better as a batsman. Most of my batting in first-class cricket has been at No.4, No. 5 or No. 6, but I played at No. 3 twice last year so I'm happy wherever they want to put me. They can put me at No. 9 if they want, although I can't bowl a few overs! I think I'm better off at the top of the order and then I can give it a go from there," Roy added.
