ICC World Cup 2019 | It's been a good campaign for us, says Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah seemed to be satisfied with his side's displays at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 as he said the campaign has gone as expected thus far. The 25-year-old Mumbai Indians pacer has already taken 17 wickets across eight matches in his debut World Cup campaign in England.
Virat Kohli-led India finished the group stage as table-toppers after they registered a seven-wicket win in their final match against Sri Lanka in Leeds. While openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul both bagged centuries in the second innings, it was Jasprit Bumrah who starred with the ball in the first.
Bumrah ended the match with figures 3/37 from his 10 overs and picked up the wickets of both the Lankan openers - Dimuth Karunaratane and Kusal Perera. The 25-year old pacer claimed that the World Cup campaign had gone as per plan thus far as the team gear up for a tough semifinal against New Zealand.
"Everybody's had a good run here. It's been a good campaign for us. Everybody has chipped in with wickets and with the bat. There's a healthy competition. It's a good headache to have when everyone's performing and everyone's in good nick and that's something you love to have been going into a crucial game like next week's semi-final," Bumrah was quoted as saying by AFP.
Bumrah, who became the second fastest Indian bowler to claim 100 ODI wickets on Saturday, added that he doesn't pay much heed to what the media talks about him and is purely focused on executing what he practices in the nets.
"I don't take praise or criticism seriously. The only focus for me is on my preparation, my execution and what I can do for the team. You see Hardik Pandya taking wickets, you see Mohammad Shami taking wickets and I've also taken wickets, so that's the positive for us going forward," Bumrah added.
