CoA in two minds over Rahul Johri's proposal for BCCI employee appraisal
The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) remain undecided over BCCI CEO Rahul Johri’s effort to promote CFO Santosh Rangnekar over IPL COO Hemang Amin. Inside sources revealed that it was unfair to assess Amin on the basis of the duration of the IPL which lasts for two months.
The 2019 season of the Indian Premier League went on without any problems despite the elections and other issues which delayed the tournament for a good month or so. BCCI COO Hemang Amin did a brilliant job to make sure the tournament played out smoothly despite the ICC World Cup taking place right after the conclusion of the domestic tournament.
A recent meeting between the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) went slightly south after the topic of the appraisal of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) employees came up for discussion. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri’s effort to promote CFO Santosh Rangnekar over IPL COO Hemang Amin was not entertained well by the members present at the meeting.
“Thodge backed Johri’s proposal that the CFO deserves a handsome appraisal for his effort and while nobody had a problem with that, there seemed to be an effort to pull down the IPL COO and that is when Diana decided to step in and argue Amin’s case,” the sources were quoted as saying by IANS.
A BCCI functionary further added that the IPL COO cannot be given extra importance as the CFO because the cash-rich league doesn’t last an entire year while Amin & Co. toil throughout the calendar year in the build up to the domestic league.
“It is unfair to judge Amin’s work as per the two months of the tournament. Along with his team, he is working throughout the year to get things in order and ensure that the IPL is one of the most successful domestic tournaments in world cricket. To just assess him on the basis of two months is unfair.
“Not to forget the hours he put in to ensure that the 2019 edition of the league happened in India despite this being an election year. The kind of co-ordination and planning Amin did deserves special praise. On the other hand, the CFO has a whole team that looks into specifics,” sources added.
