Yuvraj Singh lavished praise on Mumbai Indians' latest debutant Rasikh Salam who made his IPL bow during their opening game at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night. Singh too impressed on his MI debut as he scored a quickfire half-century but could not help his side a win at home.

Mumbai Indians succumbed to a 37-run loss against Delhi Capitals in their opening match of the 2019 season of the IPL courtesy of blistering knock of 78 off 27 balls by Rishabh Pant at the Wankhede Stadium. However, there were a few positives to take away from the game on Sunday as Yuvraj Singh made his debut for the Mumbai-based franchise with a productive innings of 53 from 35 deliveries.

Another plus point from the game was the emergence of 17-year old pacer Rasikh Salam who was handed the new ball on his debut outing for the blue and gold brigade. The youngster ended the match wicketless and gave 42 runs from his four overs but showed signs of promise throughout his spell. Singh, who played for Kings XI Punjab last year, lavished praise on the young speedster as he said that Salam will be a ‘special’ player in the next 2-3 years.

"Rasikh swung the ball in the nets that is why the boys wanted to play him. He got hit for a six and four in the last two balls. Other than that, he bowled well. I think he did fantastic for his first match in terms of handling the pressure. Pretty much like an international game. I feel he is going to be special in the next 2-3 years," Singh was quoted as saying by PTI sources.

In addition to that, Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond had some positive words for Salam as he added that the Jammu & Kashmir pacer was one of better bowlers of the team against Delhi.

"It was a challenging start but as I said in the pre-camp, things are going to go wrong at times. You are going to bowl a no-ball but the easy thing for Rasikh to do would have been to go to pieces but he certainly didn't. I thought he showed great composure and was one of our better bowlers," Bond added.
