Ashton Agar suffered a blow to the bridge of his nose in Western Australia’s Marsh One-Day Cup clash against South Australia on Sunday after dropping a catch hit by his own brother Wes. Speaking after the match, which South Australia lost, Wes admitted that he was shaken up by the incident.
Despite Callum Ferguson’s brilliant century, it was Western Australia who came out winners by six runs at the end of a thrilling encounter. But the major moment in the match came during the 41st over of South Australia’s innings when a mistimed pull shot by Wes went straight towards his brother Ashton at mid-on.
Agar ran around to attempt what looked like a straightforward catch, but slipped and copped the ball right between his eyes. Teammate Jhye Richardson signalled for medical assistance right away as Wes ran over to check on his brother's well-being.
"He slipped over and the ball hit his glasses and the glasses split him open. The doctor wanted to stitch him up, but he just got engaged so he said he'll leave it to a plastic surgeon," Wes said after speaking to his brother post-match, reported cricket.com.au.
“I was pretty rattled ... It looked really bad. I was just worried about his health. I wasn't thinking about anything else, I just ran out of my crease to go see him. I didn't feel great, but thankfully he's okay," he said.
Earlier in the day, the 22-year-old had dismissed his older brother to complete a five-wicket haul as WA posted 252 on the board.
"It's always nice to get your brother out. I played against him once (before) but only bowled about two balls to him. To get the five and him on the fifth (wicket), I'm not going to lie, it was pretty special," Wes added.
