Australia white-ball skipper and Victoria batsman Aaron Finch is recovering from a side strain ahead of Australia's T20I series against Sri Lanka. He may opt to sit out Victoria's Marsh Cup game to prevent aggravation and recover fully for the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Adelaide on Sunday.

Aaron Finch had suffered a side strain while playing against South Australia in the Marsh Cup. He later travelled to Perth for their next game against Western Australia but did not feature in the playing eleven. He will look to recover fully before the Lankan Lions hit the Aussie shores.

"It's actually a little side strain. It started out as a little back niggle and it's just a little tear in my side. So hopefully not too long," Finch said in an interview with 6PR Radio.

"Hopefully I'll be back pushing to be touch and go for the one-dayer on Wednesday against WA but hopefully ready to go on Sunday for the T20 against Sri Lanka," he further added.

Finch feels that the injury could not be having any relation with his past back issues. He believes it could be a combination of many things.

"Recently having flown a bit, playing quite a bit. With the Shield game in Melbourne, sitting down for a day and then coming out and trying to slog a few over the rope doesn't help either," said Finch.

"It can be a combination of things but hopefully, there's nothing too serious or nothing related to my back. I haven't had too many issues in the past. Just a few niggles here and there," he added.

With the t20 World Cup in Australia just a year away, Australia will be focusing on the upcoming t20 series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home to form a settled core for the World Cup, of which Finch will be an integral part. Playing six T20Is in twelve days will require Finch to be fully fit. Thus he asserted that only if he is fully fit, he will play in the Marsh Cup, else he will wait to recover fully.

"If it progresses well this week I'll play. If I can still feel it and it's a little niggle there I think the medical staff will probably take the conservative route. It could the morning of the game that that is decided or it could be the night before. We'll have to wait and see," he concluded.
