Charl Langeveldt has opined that consistency is the key in red ball cricket and he will be doing his best to inculcate the same in all the team’s fast bowlers, regardless of how many of them the captain plays in a match. He also talked about Mustafizur’s absence and the inclusion of Taskin Ahmed.

Ever since taking over the reigns of Bangladesh’s fast bowling unit, Charl langeveldt has reiterated one mantra time and again- consistency. The country has not produced many successful bowlers in that department over the years but now that they’ll be playing regular Test cricket as part of the World Test Championship, it’s time they started giving it due importance. They’ll be playing a one-off Test against Afghanistan to help prepare before beginning their campaign against India.

"I know in this condition it's very tough for pace bowler. I am very excited they learn this. For now, it is just to get consistency. So when you go overseas, when you go to India, India might prepare seaming track for us, so I need to prepare them in order to be consistent. Consistency means able to bowl four out of six in the right area, making the batsmen play, bringing him forward. And that's my big focus for now. Test cricket is all about consistency with good length,” Charl langeveldt was reported saying by Cricbuzz.

Skipper Shakib Al-Hasan had however stated that they should be playing four spinners in home matches which would leave space to accommodate only a single pace bowler. Regardless, Langeveldt feels his job is to help the bowlers achieve their full potential.

"You know I am a fast bowler and I want more pacer in the team. But at the end of the day you must understand the condition and you play according to the conditions. If the captain feels he wants to play few seamers that's up to Shakib. It's a captain's plan. Whatever he wants, I am happy. I am only here to prepare the seamers. Make sure they prepare that they can play in the Test games. If their captain prefers to play spinners and one seamer, that's his choice," he said.

Their strike bowler Mustafizur Rahman has been excluded from the Afghanistan squad after a slight injury in the national camp but is expected to be back for the India match.

"At the moment, he is carrying a niggle and we decided to rest him for that due to precaution because we have lot of white ball cricket coming up. The T20 World Cup is coming up. We have to look after him because he is our best bowler in T20 and 50 over format,” Langeveldt stated.

He has been replaced by 24-year-old Taskin Ahmed who is returning after a two-year spell away from the squad, due to poor stretch of form and continuous injuries.

"Yeah I was excited to be at the match [practice match] just for him as he is coming after a long injury layoff. With the bowling he was back but he struggled a bit with the second new ball back and that is because he has not played a lot of cricket," Langeveldt concluded.
