Bangladesh axe Soumya Sarkar from T20I tri-series squad

The Bangladesh Cricket Board have scrapped Soumya Sarkar's named from the national T20I squad after a forgettable performance by the top order batsman in the first two games of the Twenty20 series. The board has called up three uncapped players to join the squad for the ongoing tri-nation series.

Three uncapped batsmen Mohammad Naim, Aminul Islam, Nazmul Hossain will join the squad for the third and fourth match of the ongoing tri-nation T20I series in Bangladesh. The senior players in the squad failed to deliver in the first two matches and the board has taken a stern decision for the same. On Monday, September 16, they axed their experienced top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar from the home series.

In two games, Sarkar only managed to scores four runs and was blamed for the top-order's woeful batting performance. Hence, the axing.

“He did not look in a very good form. So we thought better if we could try some new players,” said BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin, according to PTI.

Amongst other changes made to the T20I squad, seasoned pacer Rubel Hossain and Shafiul Islam were also recalled while uncapped Mahedi Hasan and Yeasin Arafat were scrapped from the squad.

The tournament that ends on September 24 has its next match scheduled for Wednesday when Bangladesh play Zimbabwe in Chittagong. 

The revamped Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (capt), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Liton Das, Afif Hossain, Taijul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mohammad Naim, Aminul Islam and Nazmul Hossain.
