Former chairman of ICC N Srinivasan's daughter Rupa Gurunath is all set to continue the former's legacy in the Tamil Nadu Cricket association, with reportedly set to take over as the new chief. In that case, Rupa would be the first woman to become the president of a state association of BCCI.

With the Supreme Court on Friday giving the go ahead for the TNCA elections, the legacy of N Srinivasan is all set to continue in the association with daughter Rupa Gurunath reportedly set to take over as the next chief. According to TOI's sources, the club representatives want Srinivasan's daughter Rupa Gurunath to take over as the new TNCA president. Should that happen, then Rupa will be the first woman to become the president of a state association of BCCI.

There was reportedly an informal meeting held sometime back amongst the top members and the club representatives of the TNCA in which the members in unison were happy with the idea of Rupa being elected as the next President, with them keen on seeing the Srinivasan legacy being extended.

"Even though she is a newcomer to cricket politics, Rupa is extremely hands-on when it comes to cement business. She is a chip off the old block and we believe she will be up for the challenge," a source close to the developments told TOI.

"Rupa knows the BCCI bigwigs very well and given her track record as a top boss of India Cements, she will be quite a force in the new scheme of things. And the fact that the TNCA old guard will be there to help her, it shouldn't be a problem for her to run the ship," the source added.

It is also being reported that Rupa's name will likely be announced on Monday in an executive meeting of TNCA, with her all set to file her nomination on Tuesday should things go as planned.

However, the source maintained that should it go ahead, the election of Rupa would indeed be an organic one and not something thats being thrust upon without the consent of the members.

"Nothing will be imposed upon members. If Rupa becomes TNCA chief, it will be because the members want it," the source insisted.

Rupa is also the wife of former CSK owner Gurunath Meiyappan, who had to quit due to spot-fixing allegations.
