Reports | MCA likely to hold elections on October 15
According to the Supreme court's command, all state associations were given a deadline of September 28 to be done with their state elections. However, the Mumbai Cricket Association is set to request the SC appointed Amicus Curiae to extend that deadline by two weeks, that makes it mid-October.
On Friday, the Supreme Court had asked the state associations to reach and request the court-appointed Amicus Curiae, PS Narsimha, if they needed to extend the deadline for elections i.e. beyond September 28. While the other state associations are busy administering their elections, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has asked for a two-week extension and hence the elections are likely to be held on a delayed date, October 15.
"We'll request the (Supreme Court-appointed) Amicus Curiae to extend the September 28 deadline to conduct the state association elections by two weeks. It looks like we will hold our elections on October 15," a source in the MCA told TOI on Monday.
Meanwhile, a major development has revealed that the Bombay High Court on Monday allowed MCA to amend its constitution and have a larger apex council, consisting of 17 persons, as opposed to the Lodha reforms that allowed only six elected members in the Apex Council. The new composition of the MCA's apex council will now include 14 elected members and three nominees.
The three nominees in the council will include two representatives - one former male and female cricketer from the players' association and one representative of the government, and the third member will be a representative of the state Accountant-General's office.
