N Srinivasan has hit back at CoA chairman Vinod Rai’s comments on the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), stating that it is the CoA’s deficiencies that are clear for all to see. Rai had insisted that the TNCA had no option but to amend their constitution in accordance with the BCCI.

The BCCI and its new constitution have been under scrutiny since day one and a lack of agreement on many clauses in it has left the national board and its elections as a mess. One such state association that took an issue with the latest BCCI constitution was the TNCA, who put forward three requests: having two vice-presidents, opposition to the eligibility criteria for committee members and the stipulation that future amendments, Supreme Court approval was necessary.

“I noticed certain comments made by Mr Vinod Rai in an interview Sportstar carried on Sunday (Sept. 29) about the TNCA. Though the personalised attack on the TNCA was nothing new, it needs to be stated that this time it is only the deficiencies of the CoA which appear glaring,” Srinivasan told Sportstar.

“I’m told that the learned Amicus Curiae was receptive to many of the requests of the TNCA and has filed an interim report in court which is yet to be seen by the Supreme Court. Therefore, abide by the directives of the CoA, or forfeit your right to vote in the AGM is not a stand which Mr Vinod Rai can take,” Srinivasan continued.

The former BCCI president also noted that at least three state member associations are in disagreement with the national board’s clause on eligibility criteria.

“Also, I can challenge his statement that 30 out of 31 are fully compliant. At least three members — Saurashtra, Haryana and Karnataka — have not placed eligibility criteria for their committee members. Many associations have been allowed 19 committee members, instead of nine, as per the BCCI constitution. It is only the TNCA that is singled out for criticism unfairly,” Srinivasan added.
