The International Cricket Council has confirmed the United Arab Emirates as the new venue for the latest edition of the Women's T20 World Cup after political turmoil in Bangladesh made it impossible to host the tournament there. The matches, beginning October 3, shall be played in Dubai and Sharjah.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board will remain the official hosts for the tournament, which means they remain responsible for ensuring the event is conducted smoothly and shall thus be entitled to the revenue from the World Cup as well.

‌“It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board would have staged a memorable event,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

“I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible. However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.'

Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe are the other two nations that had offered to host the tournament instead but the ICC decided to go ahead with the UAE. The Emirates has already hosted one major tourney in the form of the Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 as well as several qualifying events to the marquee competitions. Incidentally, the ICC has also been headquartered in Dubai since 2005.

“I’d also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026,” Allardice added.

The matches are slated to take place from October 3 to October 20 across two venues, Dubai and Sharjah. The 10-team tournament will kick off with an encounter between England and South Africa while Australia shall enter as the three-time reigning champions.
