Bangladesh Women ended a 16-match losing streak in the T20 World Cup event by beating Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. A 42-run second-wicket partnership set up a score of 119 runs that was well defended with 15 runs to spare despite a fighting 49 from Sarah Bryce.

Gearing up for the first match of the T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh Women won the toss and elected to bat first under humid Sharjah conditions. Despite losing Murshida Khatun early in the innings, Shathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary stabilised the stage with cautious play. They hit only five fours inside the first ten overs with the score reading 55/1. Soon after, Shathi Rani’s stay at the crease concluded with the 42-run stand setting up the stage for the middle orders. However, they faltered with the bat, courtesy of Saskia Horley’s three-fer curtailing them to 103/6 in 18 overs. With two overs to go, Fahima Khatun struck at double hundred strike rate, playing just five balls to set up the total of 119/7 in 20 overs.

In reply, Saskia Horley and Sarah Bryce kicked off the innings on a rough way with Fahima Khatun striking in the third over. The early introduction of spin did work well for the Tigresses as Katherine Bryce and Alisa Lister failed to convert their starts. With Priyanaz Chatterji and Darcey Carter departing in the 13th and 15th over, the scoreboard reflected 72/5 in 15 overs. Scotland could gather just 17 runs in the next three overs with 31 demanding off the last two overs. Despite Sarah going strong from one end, she failed out of support from the other end, eventually ending up 16 runs short of the target.
