WT20 WC | Twitter reacts as Fahima Khatun wins 'celebration of the tournament' on opening day with quirky moves
Celebrations are an integral part of the cricketing field and displaying dancing skills has become a customary element of these celebrations. This was evident in the inaugural match of the Women’s T20 World Cup, where Bangladesh's Fahima Khatun celebrated a wicket with an impressive dance move.
Bangladesh got off to a decent start with the bat, as Shathi Rani and Murshida Khatun built a 35-run partnership. However, after their departures, the Bangladeshi middle order struggled, with Taj Nehar, Shorna Akter, and Ritu Moni contributing a few runs. Sobhana Mistry’s 36 runs helped the team finish at 119/7 in 20 overs. In response, the Scottish team had a similar start, reaching 12/0 in two overs. An epic moment unfolded when Scotland opener Saskia Horley was dismissed by Fahima Khatun, triggering a lively celebration.
On the third ball of the third over, Khatun delivered a tossed-up ball outside the off stump. As Horley stepped down the track to hit it to the leg side, she was beaten by the flipper, resulting in an inside edge. Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana Joty swiftly collected the ball and removed the bails. Khatun was ecstatic after taking the wicket, expressed her joy through a quick dance, sending Twitter into a frenzy.
What a celebration!

About the total
@bbctms @henrymoeranBBC @norcrosscricket
— hypocaust (@_hypocaust) October 3, 2024
119/7 is Bangladesh women's third highest total at a T20 World Cup.
120 would be Scotland women's second highest chase in a T20I.
One more
And it has started. Bangladesh lose their third to a run out! Taj goes for a duck! 🦆 https://t.co/lKpGRQQtbk pic.twitter.com/IO7aqNjUAu
