Conscientious students often get dejected by the minute errors in an assessment, making way for boiling frustration. Abhimanyu Easwaran, one of the good boys of Indian cricket had a similar expression written in his body language after missing out a double ton by a meager margin in the Irani Cup.

Easwaran stood out to match his counterpart Sarfaraz Khan’s double hundred for the Rest of India side on a surface that favored the batters to a greater extent. He was well accompanied by Dhruv Jurel since the morning of the fourth day as the partnership grew to 165 runs before the wicketkeeper-batter fell cheaply in the 101st over. However, Easwaran continued merry-making and quickly neared the double hundred mark. However, the Bengal batter didn’t get what he deserved despite all the hard toil, leaving him visibly frustrated.

Having smashed a couple of tons in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, Easwaran was on the verge of making it even bigger this time. He was stuck in 191 briefly, with Manav Suthar facing maximum balls in the next three overs. In an attempt to sweep on the first ball of the 103rd over against Shams Mulani, he ended up with a top-edge off a fuller ballooned-up delivery at the middle and leg. The ball looped up towards Tanush Kotian at short fine leg, leaving the 29-year-old short of a double century by just nine runs. Subsequently, the right-handed batter was seen anguish with himself and waft the bat across him in the air before trudging off the field dejected. Easwaran faced 292 balls to inch near the landmark but all his endeavours came to a rest with a minute error.
