ENG vs SL | Twitter and Woakes enraged as controversial umpiring leads to Chandimal’s survival
The rapid evolution of technology has helped the sporting world in various ways. However, machines are not always one hundred percent accurate and it was well witnessed during the fourth day of the Lord's Test between England and Sri Lanka as Chris Woakes was left livid after a technical glitch.
Resuming the innings from 52/2, the Sri Lankan batters withstood the English attack that seemed quite mediocre on the fourth day. Although nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya was dismissed early, the experienced triumvirate of Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, and Dinesh Chandimal made the opposition bowlers toil for wickets. There was a situation when Chris Woakes rightfully earned his wicket of Chandimal if not for a technical glitch that led to controversial umpiring drama.
Woakes was halfway through his spell in the second session when Chandimal crossed the fifty-run mark in the second innings. While trying to extend the innings, the right-hander was trapped in front of the wicket on the last ball of the 60th over. Woakes bowled a fuller than a length delivery that seamed inward to beat the inside edge of the on-drive from the batter.
While the onfield umpire Joel Wilson signaled it out, Sri Lanka opted for a review and ironically, the TV umpire reversed the decision. A tiny scratch was spotted as the ball whiskered past the edge of the bat, causing the decision to overturn. The 35-year-old was completely furious about the decision and was seen seething in the field after arguing with Wilson. The English players surrounded the umpire but only to provoke a debate on technological glitch in Ultraedge.

Really poor
We all know that Chandimal didn’t hit that. The spike is clearly before the ball has got to the bat. Really poor from DRS who seemed to rush through that decision. #bbccricket

He isn't fit
I think Chandimal isn't 100% fit enough after the finger injury or the pain after the injury is still going in his mind. His defence isn't up to the mark when the ball is coming towards his hand against faster bowlers.

No wonder
#bbccricket No wonder Woakes isn't happy, there's no way Chandimal hit that ball. It didn't even reach the bat, before that nick appeared!

Nice setup
Such a nice setup from Bashir. Varied his trajectories and mixed his lengths well.

Chandimal did well to counter anything on the fuller side. But Mathews was slightly tentative, so England kept the field up and trapped him.
Fantastic
Fantastic Knock. 28th Test Half-Century for Dinesh Chandimal 55*(49).

Unpredictability is there!
Chandimal is playing an inning that should be played by any srilankan batter when they are chasing 483 it is nearly impossible for SL but we can not say this is cricket game of unpredictability #ENGvsSL #England #srilanka #CricketPlayedLouder

55 in 46 balls with 11 fours, reminding me of Dilshan who loved to score through boundaries so easily #ENGvSL
