Wicketkeepers are undeniably crucial fielders for a bowling team, and their occasional lapses can result in upheaval. This was evident in the Vitality Blast match between Surrey and Durham where Rory Burns failed to execute a straightforward run-out opportunity against Durham's Michael Jones.

‌Durham experienced a rough beginning with the bat, losing Graham Clark in the first over. The situation worsened as Oliver Robinson, Brydon Carse, and Alex Lees also fell, leaving the scoreboard at a precarious 39/4. As Durham struggled further, collapsing to 69-6 by the 13th over, it appeared they were on the brink of disaster. Nonetheless, a determined partnership between Bas de Leede and Michael Jones started to stabilize the innings. Amidst this, a funny thing took place on the 15th over where Rory Burns failed to break the partnership with a simple run-out miss opportunity.

In the 15th over, Tom Curran delivered a wide yorker to the Scotland opener, who pushed it firmly towards the cover region. Will Jacks showcased his skill by intercepting the ball to his left and swiftly relaying it to Surrey's wicketkeeper, Rory Burns. During the commotion, a significant mix-up occurred between de Leede and Jones, prompting Jones to dash back to the crease. Despite Jack's precise throw to the stumps, Burns struggled to cleanly gather the ball and fumbled while attempting to dislodge the bails. As he missed the straightforward run-out chance, Burns couldn't help but flash a wry smile, acknowledging his blunder.

What did he do?
