PAK vs NZ | Super Eights gets off with no action as Pakistan and New Zealand split points in rainy Colombo
The 2026 T20 World Cup endured its second washout at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday to kick off the Super Eights with no result between Pakistan and New Zealand. Saman Agha won the toss and put the Kiwis in to field first but persistent showers thereafter meant not a ball was bowled.

Pakistan and New Zealand were left frustrated in Colombo as rain deprived fans of the much-anticipated start to the second phase of the 2026 T20 World Cup. A light drizzle was around in Colombo uptill a few moments before the toss when the skies cleared to allow the coin-flip to go ahead on time amidst promises of an on-time start, despite the square being under covers. Pakistan chose to bat first despite a seemingly dry pitch on offer that seemed set to grow slower as the game progressed, and left out Abrar Ahmed once again while bringing in Fakhar Zaman for Khawaja Nafay. The Black Caps, on the other hand, welcomed back their skipper Mitchell Santner after he missed the previous game and fielded a specialist spinner for the first time in the event in the form of Ish Sodhi. Lockie Ferguson also found his way back into the XI, with Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy sitting out.
However, before the two sets of player could have a chance to showcase their skills to the hopeful fans sitting at the venue, the showers returned and this time they refused to die down. Shortly after 9 PM local time, the officials decided to call it a day and the two captains shook hands to signal the match had been abandoned, with both teams taking a point each which could prove to be the difference between qualiication and a Super Eights exit come the business end.
