Suryakumar Yadav has been going through a tough time of late but early signs were promising in the first T20I against New Zealand in Nagpur. The Indian skipper after a couple of boundaries brought out his trademark supla shot, much to the delight of the boisterous fans, to get his innings going.

‌It was familiar scenes yet again as Abhishek Sharma raced away in the powerplay despite wickets falling around him in the first T20I against New Zealand in Nagpur on Wednesday. Though Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan departed cheaply, the left-handed opener smashed four sixes as the home side crossed the 50-run mark in the fifth over.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav, who is going through a lean patch, joined the batter and got going with some sweet drives on either foot. The Indian skipper looked to maximise the side’s returns in the last over of the powerplay as debutant Kristian Clarke was in his second.

After getting smacked by Abhishek for a six in the second ball, the medium-pacer tried to keep it tight, bowling a short of a length delivery at the batter’s body. But Surya was ready as he shuffled across to hit it over the backward square leg region.

The trademark supla shot was out though a bit square but the fans did not complain as they welcomed it with loud cheers at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. Twitter was in awe as the hosts’ skipper pulled off his go-to shot with ease and bansihed memories of his recent dry run.
