The Indian team is about to have a packed schedule for the T20Is soon. And the BCCI is yet to take a decision on the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. While he has been a successful captain, the board might be looking for a future skipper with the 2028 T20 World Cup in plans.

Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the best captains for the Indian team in the shortest format of the game. He led the Indian team to win the 2025 Asia Cup and even the T20 World Cup 2026. But the question still remains on his captaincy, as the BCCI is set to take a decision on the same ahead of the Ireland and England series.

Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is (as a Captain):

  • Innings: 49
  • Not Out: 6
  • Runs: 1232
  • Average: 28.65
  • Strike Rate: 154.96
  • 100s: 1
  • 50s: 8

While Suryakumar Yadav has been a successful captain, he is aged 35. It is still not clear whether he will be in the plans for the 2028 T20 World Cup or not. With various young stars emerging, the BCCI will soon take a decision on his captaincy.

Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is (not a Captain):

  • Innings: 58
  • Not Out: 11
  • Runs: 2040
  • Average: 43.40
  • Strike Rate: 168.17
  • 100s: 3
  • 50s: 17

Another concern for Suryakumar Yadav which has been prevalent is his form. While he has led the Indian team well, he has not been able to score runs with the same consistency like he used to do. Due to this reason, his stats being a captain have dropped as compared to the time when he was not a skipper.

Our Take

It remains to be seen what decision will the BCCI take on the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. He has been a great captain for the Indian team, as the team didn't even lose a series under his captaincy. With his dominance, the new captain of the Indian team will be eager to carry the same in the future series and tournaments.
