How Two Fab Four Batters Missed Out on a Dream Test Achievement
Achieving 10K runs in the Test format is a dream for various batsmen. But there are two players of the Fab four who remained too close yet too far from the same. Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli retired from this format before achieving this milestone.
The Fab Four is now standing as Fab Two, as two players of the same have retired from the longest format of the game. Joe Root, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, and Virat Kohli were considered as the best Test players of the modern generation, as they dominated the toughest format with ease.
And in Test format, every batsman has the dream to achieve 10,000 runs. Virat Kohli even said in one of his interviews that he wants to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket. But ultimately, he announced his retirement from the game in May 2025, when he had scored 9230 runs for the Indian team in the Test format.
Along with that, the cricket fans have received another shock, with Kane Williamson announcing his retirement. Fans thought he would be easily completing his 10,000 runs mark in the longest format. But with a shock retirement, Kane Williamson has retired from the Test format with a total of 9515 runs.
Our Take
Even though Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli didn't score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, they will still be remembered as the greatest. Virat Kohli’s prime in the Test format came at a time when all the other Fab four batsmen were struggling to find tons. And Kane Williamson was among the few batters who could compete with Virat Kohli when Kohli was at his peak performance. But, both of them missed out on the historic milestone of 10,000 Test runs.
