Kuldeep Yadav Stars as India Complete 3-0 ODI Series Sweep Over Afghanistan in Chennai.

Pitch and Weather

The surface at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, should be a typical slow and dry surface. Batters can score heavily if they spend time at the crease, but it is more difficult to strike the ball the older it gets. The middle overs are for spinners to exploit, who will likely have plenty of grip and turn. Fast bowlers may find some assistance with the new ball before relying on cutters and variations later on. Weather is anticipated to be very hot and humid with no rain expected, so battering first will be advantageous.

Toss

India wins the toss and chooses to bat first. Pitched with the idea of putting runs on the board and letting India's spin attack take advantage of the deteriorating surface as the game unfolds, Shubman Gill opts to do just that in Afghanistan's pursuit.

Match Report

India swept Afghanistan 3-0 in the ODI series with a commanding 87-run win at Chennai. After choosing to bat first, India recovered from an early setback when Yashasvi Jaiswal fell cheaply to Bilal Sami. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill then put on a fluent 96-run stand to steady the game and put India 68/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Rohit looked in sheer brilliance as he hit 72 off 68 balls before Rashid Khan broke the stand. Gill was comfortable to anchor the innings with 84 and Shreyas Iyer added a brisk 48. The spinners from Afghanistan showed their worth in the middle order and KL Rahul's unbeaten 55 off 43 balls took India to a competitive 298/7.

The Afghan side had a good start off with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran putting in 63 runs for the first wicket. Washington Sundar dismissed Gurbaz to unleash a meltdown against India's spin attack. Kuldeep Yadav was outstanding with the ball on the turning surface, he cleared Zadran, Rahmat Shah and Shahidi in a match changing spell.

Rashid Khan's aggressive 31 briefly delayed the inevitable, but Afghanistan struggled to build partnerships. Arshdeep Singh took care of the lower order while Kuldeep played with exceptional figures. Afghanistan were finally bowled out for 211 in 44.2 overs, giving India a nice series win.

Player of the Match

Kuldeep Yadav got Player of the Match for his superb 4/34 in 10 overs. He effectively ended the chase by neutralising the Afghanistan middle order and this is where he had the most significant contribution in the Indian win.
