Why Missing the Afghanistan Series Won't Stop Virat Kohli's 100-Ton Dream
Virat Kohli has already scored 85 centuries in international cricket. He is the only player standing close to the record of 100 international centuries being held by Sachin Tendulkar. Even though he missed the series against Afghanistan, he still has a chance.

Virat Kohli missed out on the ODI series against Afghanistan, and fans think that the road to 100 tons will be challenging for the King. But that's not the case. It has been affected with a few challenges, noting the fact that he plays the ODI format only. But the Indian team is having a packed schedule in the ODIs, as the 2027 World Cup comes closer.
Virat sustained a hamstring injury in the IPL 2026 season, as he got injured in the final clash against Gujarat Titans. And now, he has recovered well enough to make a return against England. The series against England will be followed by three match ODIs against West Indies, and a five match ODI series against New Zealand.
With these fixtures, Kohli could still play 15-25 more ODIs in the build up for the 2027 World Cup. In order to achieve the 100 centuries mark, every game comes out to be important for Virat Kohli, noting the fact that he only plays ODIs. If he wouldn't have retired from Tests, things would have been much easier for him and even the fans who wanted him to cross 100 tons.
But Kohli is still regarded for his prowess in the ODI format. He has mastered this format like no one else, having scored 54 centuries in this format alone. Taking a look at his form and fitness, he is likely to get more tons this year and potentially cross the 90 centuries mark. Even though the 100 tons remain a challenge, Kohli has achieved a lot in the game in this era.
