Sanju Samson and Mohammed Shami could soon make their return to the Indian team. As the selectors prepare a squad for the series against Afghanistan, Samson is likely to be picked in the ODI team. At the same time, Shami is also expected to make his long awaited Test comeback.

Within the next few hours, we may see some surprise returns which will shock the fans to a great extent. The BCCI is all set to announce its squad for the Test match and ODI series against Afghanistan, which is expected to happen tomorrow. Right before the same, there are a few reports which have emerged for the squad returns.

Sanju Samson, the CSK batsman, who also helped India to win the T20 World Cup 2026, could make his return. He is expected to be a part of the ODI team, a format which he has already played for India. The last time Samson played an ODI was back in 2023, when he scored a century against South Africa.

Along with that, Mohammed Shami is also back on the cards to make his return to the team. With his impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy 2025/26, the selectors have kept an eye on Shami. He is likely to make his comeback with the Test match against Afghanistan, as he could return after the WTC final 2023.

Our Take

If the reports are true, the Indian fans would be happier than Shami and Samson themselves. Both of these players have worked way too hard over the last few months to ensure that they are able to make a comeback to the Indian team in these formats. Shami’s return was much awaited by the fans, as the Indian team was constantly suffering with its bowling unit in the longest format of the game.
