Gerrard praises Man United, says they are on the title track
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has said that Manchester United are looking like title prospects for the next season after finding a settled team under Jose Mourinho this season. Gerrard also praised Zlatan Ibrahimovic's performance against West Brom by calling him a “world-class player”.
The Premier League title hasn't returned to Old Trafford for three years, following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013. But Liverpool great Steven Gerrard feels that the Red Devils now have a great team to challenge for the title next season.
"Everyone knows they've had a difficult few years before Jose's come in and slowly but surely they're moving forward. They're getting a settled team,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
"There's a lot of players within the XI who are playing very well and the bench looks strong as well. Jose's made three or four really big signings, they're settling and doing well.”
“They're only a few more pieces away from the jigsaw that'll make them compete again at the top. I think next year Manchester United will compete for the title. They're moving forward and playing an awful lot better than they did in previous years. They've got a chance [of the top four this season],” he added.
Gerrard also reserved words of praise for United
'It's not easy (coming into the Premier League aged 35) but he's in terrific shape. He ran for the full 90 minutes today and worked so hard both with the ball and without it,” the former midfielder said.
'He's enjoying his football - he's a world-class player and he's now proving it week in, week out.'
Gerrard also questioned if United have been depending too much on the former PSG striker.
'The worry for United would be if he got an injury, or he has a dip in form, is there enough goals around him? The likes of Pogba, Mata, Rooney they do have to help him by chipping in a bit more,' the 36-year old said.
