Indian women’s team goalkeeper - Aditi Chauhan - has revealed that it would benefit the Indian team to play against elite-class European opponents during the upcoming tour of Spain. She added that the Indians will have to embrace a more physical style of play whilst sticking to their own strength.

While the Indian U-17 boys & girls football teams are on tour in Thailand and South Africa respectively, the Indian senior women’s football team are scheduled to travel to Spain for the COTIF tournament that will begin on August 1. The Indian team will stay in Spain for almost a week as they go up against teams from the Spanish top division league.

And Indian first-team goalkeeper, Aditi Chauhan, has revealed that the prospect of going up against top-class European opponents will definitely benefit the young Indian squad that will travel to Valencia.

"It's a great opportunity for us to explore and test ourselves outside of Asia. We have been dominating the South-Asian football circuit in recent years and have a decent idea where we stand in Asia. But, this tournament will give us a better understanding of how we fare against world-class European teams.

"This tournament is significant as it will be extremely beneficial for us to see the level of professionalism and that is something, which we should aspire for. I need to thank Sports Authority of India and AIFF for giving us this opportunity to test ourselves against some of the best teams in the world," Chauhan said in an AIFF release.

The women’s team will face off against Spanish top-division teams Fundacion Albacete and Levante U D on August 1 and 3 respectively. Chauhan & Co. will then go on to play the national Moroccan team on August 6 in their last match of the tournament. Chauhan remained confident on her side’s chances and claimed that the young squad will need to embrace the physical aspect of European football in Spain.

"Having played in England I am aware that it will be a tough challenge as most European teams love to play a physical game and to some extent we are not used to playing against such teams. They will be physically stronger than us but I feel it is the right challenge for us and we will have to adapt accordingly, whilst playing to our strengths," Chauhan added.
