Great things were expected from Bibaiano Fernandes and his young and talented bunch of players who were set to compete in this year's U-15 SAFF Championship that is being played on home soil. The Indian team got off to the perfect start they desired as they brush aside neighbours Nepal with an emphatic scoreline of 5-0.

Goals from Maheson Singh (5'), Shubho Paul (24') and Anish Mazumder (43') ensured that India would end the first half by a comfortable 3-0 lead. They further added to that tally as Taison Singh (49') and Sridarth Nongmeikapam (56') bagged one goal each in the second half to end their SAFF opening game with five goals to none.

Bibiano Fernandes' boys, who recently returned from an exposure tour to Thailand, will next face off against Bhutan on August 25 followed by a meeting with Bangladesh on August 29. The eventual group winners and runners-up will be involved in the final which will be played on August 31.
