ISL 2019-20 | Our chances increase by 20 per cent with support of our fans, says Antonio Habas
Before the first home game against Hyderabad, ATK coach Antonio Habas has said that their chances of a win increase by 20 per cent with the support of the fans and said the support should be earned rather than asked. Defender Prabir Das thanked the management for rehabilitating him from his injury.
ATK will face debutants Hyderabad FC in their first home game at the Mecca of Indian Football - Kolkata. ATK need to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Kerala Blasters in the inaugural match in Kochi. Ahead of the match ATK's head coach Antonio Habas has said that he will have to earn the support of their fans rather than asking for it. He also said their chances of winning are increased by 20 per cent with the support of the fans.
“We need the earn the support of the fans. To be fair, I don’t just want to ask the fans to support us. The players on the pitch must prove it to the fans. Our chances of a win increase by 20 per cent with the support of the fans. Without supporters, there is no football," Habas was quoted as saying by the ISL website.
ATK’s new foreign forwards Roy Krishna and David Williams failed to convert opportunities into goals in the opener against Kerala Blasters. Also, ATK played with seven new players in ISL. Habas is hopeful of finding the right balance very soon this season.
"We had many opportunities to score but it didn't happen. Some days we might have lesser opportunities but might score more goals. Unfortunately, we did not have good luck, but that is all in the past. Now I must only think about the coming match. The team obviously must improve. We played seven new players in the starting XI against Kerala and they will find the right balance soon," the Spanish coach said.
“I think Soosairaj has a fantastic future. One day he can play as a wing-back, and the next, he can play as a forward. He can play in many sectors of the pitch."
Habas was also accompanied by ATK defender Prabir Das who was ruled out entirely from the last season due to an ankle injury. He thanked the management and coach for the support during his rehabilitation.
"I would like to thank the ATK management. They sent me to rehabilitation in Bangalore and helped me get better. I would like to thank head coach Habas as well for keeping me updated when I was in rehab and he kept me motivated as well," the defender said.
