ISL 2019-20 | I want football to challenge cricket, says Hyderabad FC coach Phil Brown
Indian Super League debutants Hyderabad FC head coach Phil Brown expressed that he wanted to see football in the same level as cricket in India. The new team came into existence after FC Pune City shut down its operations due to lack of funds following the 2018-19 season where they finished seventh
Hyderabad FC unveiled their new jersey for their maiden ISL season on Sunday which looked classy in a black and yellow combination. The theme of the kit is inspired by the traditional Nizami Sherwani and the city’s architecture and the colours represent the heritage and pride of the city.
The event was graced by former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, actor Venkatesh Duggabati and Hyderabad FC’s owners Varun Tripuraneni and Vijay Madurai and head coach Phil Brown. It was then that the English manager said that he wanted football to reach on an equal footing with cricket which enjoys an enormous amount of following in India.
"We are looking forward to the upcoming season. I really want to make a mark and take it to the levels achieved before in the 50s and 60s when Hyderabad was a force to reckon with (in football). Cricket is massive in India but I want football to challenge cricket and whether that's in Hyderabad or throughout India," said Brown as reported by News18.com.
Hyderabad is a city with a rich football heritage and finally, it has now got its own football team. With the 2019-20 Indian Super League starting from October 20, Hyderabad FC will mark its arrival in the league with an away fixture to ATK on October 25.
