Neymar had previously terminated his contract with Saudi club Al-Hilal after battling injuries, having played only seven games. He officially returned to football in October 2024, signing a six-month contract with Santos, where he achieved great success in his first stint from 2009 to 2013.

Neymar's first spell at Santos saw him score 138 goals in 225 appearances.
