A winter exit remains possible if a loan with buy obligation matches United’s valuation.
As the winter transfer window reaches a decisive stage, Juventus and Roma are closely monitoring Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, who joined the club from Bologna in the summer of 2024 for a fee of £36.5 million. Roma were initially in pole position earlier this month, but their managerial change and subsequent signings of Robinio Vaz from Marseille and Donyell Malen from Aston Villa have altered their priorities. Despite strengthening their forward line, Roma have not completely withdrawn and are still assessing the situation, while Juventus have now formally entered the race.
Manchester United have no current plans to permit winter departures, yet a key internal meeting between interim manager Michael Carrick and club officials could influence the striker’s future. Carrick’s recent selection choices have added intrigue, with Benjamin Sesko making the bench against Manchester City while Zirkzee failed to make the matchday squad. Sesko was unused despite scoring three goals across his two previous appearances, signalling a tactical decision rather than one based on form.
Zirkzee himself is reportedly keen on a new challenge to enhance his chances of featuring for the Netherlands at the upcoming World Cup. United may entertain an exit if a loan with a mandatory purchase clause close to their £36.5 million outlay is proposed.
