The final Twenty20 International between India and South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata was abandoned without a ball being bowled owing to wet outfield following rain earlier in the day.

The tourists had sealed the three-match series with a game to spare after convincing victories in Dharamshala and Cuttack. South Africa’s JP Duminy was declared the Man of the Series.

“Disappointing the rain played a huge role today. The players’ safety is quite important on such a long tour. I think it is really important to acknowledge how hard it is to come to India and win a series,” South Africa T20 skipper Faf du Plessis said at the prize distribution ceremony.

“We will take a lot of confidence going into the One-Day International series,” he added.

India captain MS Dhoni said he was looking ahead to the ODIs. “It's sad that we were not able to play. The ODIs will be good. Again, a lot will depend on the kind of venues and the toss as well. Dew is always a factor. We would like to play on the surface that is provided to us. At the same time, we want to make the most of the home series.”

The five-match ODI series will begin in Kanpur on October 11.
