Sourav Ganguly has refused to get drawn into Ravi Shastri’s comments about him not being present during the interview for the Indian coach. Ganguly said that the coach selection process was confidential and that he does not want to say anything about Shastri’s comments on his absence.

The drama surrounding the appointment of the India coach has refused to die down even after Anil Kumble secured the position. Former Indian team director Ravi Shastri’s comments have started another controversy, this time, surrounding former Indian skipper and Cricket Advisory Committee member Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and honorary BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale were the four-member panel designated to conduct the interview. But, Shastri had said that Ganguly was not present during his interview.

“Well, actually he wasn’t there,” Shastri told the Indian Express paper on Friday when he was asked about the questions from Ganguly.

Reacting to Shastri’s comments, Ganguly played it safe and said that the coach selection process was confidential.

“The (coach selection) interview is absolutely confidential. I don’t want to talk about Shastri’s comment. You should also ask the other members of the (cricket) advisory committee,” Ganguly told the Indian Express.

The former Indian skipper went on to add that Shastri’s interview was held at the same time as Cricket Association of Bengal’s working committee meeting. He clarified that he attended the meeting between 5 and 6pm before re-joining the Cricket Advisory Committee at 6.30pm, reported the Indian Express.

Ravi Shastri was one of the frontrunners for the post of India coach, but lost it in the end to Anil Kumble.
