VIDEO | Windies’ Shimron Hetmeyer left embarrassed after premature celebration

We win together and we lose together and sometimes we get laughed together too. That’s exactly what Windies’ players felt as they were left dumbfounded after Shimron Hetmeyer began celebrating a catch at second slip and what he thought was the wicket of Mahmudullah off a Kemar Roach delivery.

Cricket can be a funny game sometimes and if you don’t agree, then ask the Windies’ squad who are well renowned for their on-field antics and their ability to keep the crowds in stadiums entertained. However, on this occasion, Jason Holder’s boys were left embarrassed courtesy Shimron Hetmeyer.

On day two of the second Test against Bangladesh, Windies’ pacer Kemar Roach began to tackle opponent batsmen - Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan in the first over of the morning session itself. Roach seemed to have got Mahmudullah, who was batting on 32 after he appeared to have edged the ball to Shimron Hetmeyer at second slip who picked up the catch.

However, while the fielder began celebrating the wicket of the Bangladeshi captain, the rest of his teammates and the umpire looked rather unconvinced with his effort. After the on-field umpires asked the third umpire for help, replays revealed that the ball had indeed hit the ground before the fielder could collect it, which meant Mahmudullah was safe. While that was just for checking purpose, everyone and their pet dog were convinced that it couldn't have been out, and the very thought of it left the entire Windies unit embarrassed.
