Innovation and BBL go hand in hand and every year since its inception, the league has been experimenting in every aspect to enhance the viewer’s experience. However, this year they were stumped as the bat toss experiment saw the bat land on its side and resulted in the toss being redone.

The “bat toss” experiment by Cricket Australia has drawn all sorts of reactions from the fans. With some saying that it was a nostalgic touch that adds to the entertainment on offer, some came out criticizing it as well. However, at the end of the day, as long as it was serving its purpose, no one seemed to care too much.

That was until Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers decided to have a go at it. With Ashton Turner and Colin Ingram coming to the middle for the toss, no one could have imagined what was about to happen. Turner flipped the bat and as it fell to the ground, instead of landing on the “roof” or “flat” side, the bat ended up falling on the side. As Ingram stood there looking confused, Turner threw his arms up in the air in exasperation on what had just transpired.

Eventually, it was the Scorchers who won the bat flip after it was done for a second time and decided to chase. They did a good enough job as well by restricting the Strikers to just 88 runs in the first innings to set-up a very simple chase for themselves.
