BCCI announces prize money for the victorious Indian Under-19 team and support staff

The Committee of Administrators appointed by the Supreme Court of India have announced a cash prize for the head coach, players and the support staff of the winning U-19 Indian team. India lifted their 4th U-19 World Cup Trophy after defeating Australia by 8 wickets in the finals of the tournament.

Earlier, India bowled out Australia for just 216 runs in their allotted quota of 50 overs with the help of the spinners who were able to put a halt to the freely scoring Australian duo of Jonathan Merlo and Param Uppal. The Indian spinners gave away just 98 runs in the 23 overs they bowled between them and captured 4 wickets. In reply, Indian batsmen started off on a positive note as Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra added 71 runs for the first wicket in just 70 balls and eventually, the team crossed the line with 11 overs to spare.

So elated by the result, the CoA announced a prize money of INR 50 lakhs for Rahul  Dravid for helping these guys to put up a good show in winning the title. His support staff which comprises Paras Mhambrey, Abhay Sharma and other will receive INR 20 lakhs each as the cash prize. The undefeated team India players, under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw, are set to receive INR 30 lakhs each for their wonderful performance in the world Cup.

While announcing this Vinod Rai, the Chairman of CoA, said, “I congratulate the U19 team who have made the country proud. Head Coach Rahul Dravid played his cricket with sincerity and it was pleasing to see the boys uphold the value. They have been fantastic athletes and even better ambassadors. The boys have done so well, and I am sure they will work hard and climb the ladder and represent the senior team in the future.

"The consistent performance is a testimony to the fact of BCCI’s initiative in nurturing the talent and providing them an environment to the youngsters and perform to their potential. I congratulate Rahul Dravid and his team for returning home with the glittering ICC World Cup,” added Diana Edulji, a member of  CoA.
