Reports | Mickey Arthur calls for Sarfraz Ahmed's sacking from Pakistan captaincy
Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has called for the sacking of Sarfaraz Ahmed as the captain of the Pakistan Cricket team, according to reports. The reports also suggest that Arthur has apparently asked for a two-year extension as coach, promising 'remarkable results' if given the opportunity.
All is not well in the Pakistani camp post their rather disappointing World Cup campaign. Firstly, star pacer Mohammad Amir announced his unexpected retirement from Tests, leaving everyone in a state of shock. Then, reports emerged that Shan Masood was talked up as the man to replace current skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed as the captain in Tests. Now, fresh reports have emerged that coach Mickey Arthur has requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to sack Sarfaraz from captaincy, for unspecified reasons.
Arthur, whose future as the coach of Pakistan is also under cloud, has also apparently requested the board to give him a two-year extension, promising "remarkable results" in the specified duration if given an extension. Arthur also reportedly asked for the appointment of Shadab Khan as the ODI captain, while handing over Test captaincy to Babar Azam, at the expense of Sarfaraz.
“Arthur did have some negative things to say about Sarfaraz’s captaincy skills to the members,” sources close to the Pakistan team were quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“I need two more years with the Pakistan team and then I can deliver remarkable results,” Arthur was reportedly quoted as saying to a Committee headed by PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan.
As things stand, the future of both Sarfaraz as captain and Arthur as the coach are under jeopardy.
