After missing out the T20I series, Shikhar Dhawan is set to be out of the national team for a long time as he fails to recover ahead of the ODI series against West Indies. Dhawan’s knee injury was sustained in Delhi’s Syed Mushtaq Ali game against Maharashtra and has failed to recover ever since.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan is reportedly set to miss the ODI series against West Indies, after being ruled out of the T20I squad against the same opposition earlier this month. The left-hander was picked initially for both the series before Dhawan sustained a knee injury in the Syed Mushtaq Ali game against Maharashtra during his time with Delhi.

BCCI’s press release prior to the series read, “The BCCI Medical Team assessed him to review the healing of his wound. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely.”

Further, according to the reports from Bangalore Mirror, Dhawan would be soon ruled out of the ODI series having failed to recover from the injury. India would not risk the left-hander before the IPL season, as Dhawan would be an integral part of the squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia later next year.

The reports also added that Sanju Samson would be the replacement for Dhawan in the squad, as KL Rahul will once again take up the spot at the top of the order alongside Rohit Sharma. However, other choices are Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal, who have excelled on the domestic circuit.

Reported ODI squad: Virat Kohli (capt), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shivam Dube, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
