Could stay at Manchester City beyond 2021, reveals Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he is open to extending his contract at the club beyond 2021 but it depends on how City performs in the upcoming seasons. The Spaniard was appointed by the Manchester club in 2016 and has delivered unprecedented success in last 3 years.

Premier League Champions Manchester City received a boost when manager Pep Guardiola revealed that he was open to the idea of staying at the club beyond 2021, as reported by the BBC. In his 3 full years in charge, the former Barcelona man has won 6 trophies in England including two back to back Premier League titles and the first 100 points Premier League season in the history of the league.

He signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2021 but now, Guardiola is happy to stay beyond 2021 and admits he is extremely happy with the club. However, he also went on to admit that there are not talks of a contract extension yet and it depends on how well the club will do this season, how well the players adapt and other issues.

“I'm so comfortable working with this club. When you are [somewhere for] five years it depends on the results. We will see what happens this season and next season. It is not as simple as I want to extend. I want to see the club, I want to see the players, I want to see how we are still working together. That is the most important thing after five years together. You have to feel like we can do it together and enjoy to work together,” Pep told the BBC.

Guardiola spent four years in charge at Barcelona, winning La Liga three times and the Champions League twice. He left the Catalans and joined Bayern Munich winning Bundesliga titles in all the three seasons. Guardiola also told that he wouldn’t stand in the way of his assistant Mikel Arteta is offered a manager’s role elsewhere. With Unai Emery sacked, Arteta might be offered the role at Emirates by the Gunners board.

“I said many times with my players, staff, they're free to do what they want to do. With Mikel it's about being a friend. I want the best for him. What I want is we stay together this season and next season, but I don't know what's the best for him,” concluded Guardiola.
