After Anurag Thakur's request to the ICC to stop seeding India and Pakistan in the same group in multi-national events, a source at the PCB has questioned if India would pull out of the tie against them in the Champions Trophy. The source also played down Thakur's comments as purely political.

Following the terrorist attack on Uri post at the LoC, tensions have peaked between India and Pakistan. Reacting to questions on cricketing relations between the two, BCCI President Anurag Thakur had ruled out any cricket ties with Pakistan considering the deteriorating relations between the two countries. On Friday, Thakur, who is also a top leader of the ruling BJP party, said that the BCCI would ask the ICC not to put India with Pakistan in the same group of any ICC event.

Following the BCCI chief's comments, a source at the Board has questioned the BCCI whether they would forfeit the Group B match to be played against Pakistan in the upcoming Champions Trophy on June 4, 2017, reported PTI.

The source questioned, "If they really don't want to play Pakistan at all would they be willing to forfeit the match against us in next year's Champions Trophy.”

Sources in the PCB have also reportedly told PTI that Thakur's statements were not taken seriously since he is a politician and is just looking to attract headlines with his statements.

"We are hearing and reading such statements in recent days but we don't think it is necessary to react to them at this stage. No changes can be made now so what is the purpose of such statements except to play to the galleries," another source said.

The source said that the statements have no significance given the fact that India have not played Pakistan in a proper bilateral series since 2007 and even backed out of its MOU signed with PCB to play six series from 2015 to 2022, reported PTI.
